Summer 2024 will be our 5th year offering summer online programs. As new course offerings are confirmed, we will list them here, with links to the relevant course pages.

Introduction to Ancient Greek

Introduction to Ancient Greek is offered in June and July in two week sessions, meeting weekdays for 2.5 hour classes beginning at either 10:30am EDT or 8pm EDT (please be certain to make the correct start time selection on the application form).

Students may choose from the following sessions:

• June 23 - July 4 Intro to Ancient Greek, Level 1 (Beginners) S/M/T/W/T 8:00pm-10:30pm EDT

• June 24 - July 5 Intro to Ancient Greek, Level 1 (Beginners) M/T/W/T/F 10:30am-1pm EDT

• July 7 - 18 Intro to Ancient Greek, Level 2 (Advanced Beginners) S/M/T/W/T 8:00pm-10:30pm EDT

• July 8 - 19 Intro to Ancient Greek, Level 2 (Advanced Beginners) M/T/W/T/F 10:30am-1pm EDT

Introduction to Latin

Introduction to Latin is offered in June and July in two week sessions, meeting weekdays for 2.5 hour classes. Students may choose from the following sessions:

• June 10 - 21 Intro to Latin, Level 1, M/T/W/T/F 10:30am-1pm EDT

• June 24 - July 5 Intro to Latin, Level 2, M/T/W/T/F 10:30am-1pm EDT

• July 8 - 19 Intro to Latin, Level 3, M/T/W/T/F 10:30am-1pm EDT

Ancient Greek & Roman Philosophy (*New in 2024)

From Socrates and the Sophists to Stoicism and Neoplatonism, this course will take you through all the important Greek and Roman philosophical doctrines of ancient antiquity. (Note: This is not a translation course. No prior language skills necessary).

• June 17 - 28, M/T/W/T/F 10am-12pm EDT

Course Fee: $1200

Early Chinese Philosophy & Practice (*New in 2024)

Learn the foundations of ancient Chinese thought. This class will include a special focus on recently unearthed manuscripts and how archaeologists and linguists discover and translate these rare documents. (Note: This is not a translation course. No prior language skills necessary).

Ancient European Architecture (*New in 2024)

The religious beliefs, aesthetic influences, and engineering innovations of ancient Greece and Rome reverberate through the centuries, represented in many structures still standing today. Learn the fundamental concepts of architecture through the history of ancient European amphitheaters, temples, arches, and aqueducts. (Note: This is not a translation course. No prior language skills necessary).

Fall of the Roman Republic (*New in 2024)

This course examines the Fall of the Republic through 6 major players in the 1st century BCE: Crassus, Pompey, Cicero, Caesar, Antony, and Octavian. Explore the history, economics, and politics of this explosive period through visual, historical, literary and discussion-based components. (Note: This is not a translation course. No prior language skills necessary).

Introduction to Egyptian Hieroglyphic

Take this rare opportunity to study Middle Egyptian (aka Hieroglyphic)! Learn to decipher the pictographic inscriptions of one of the most fascinating and powerful ancient cultures ever.

Ancient Mesoamerican Culture (*New in 2024)

This new Calder Classics course will guide you through the everyday life, history, art, and pictographic language of the ancient Mesoamerican cultures: Olmec, Mayan, and Mexica (Aztec). Gain a deeper knowledge of the core of Mexico and Central American history. (Note: This is not a translation course. No prior language skills necessary).

Introduction to Modern Greek (*New in 2024)

Join Athina, our longtime Modern Greek tutor, for a focused summer primer. This course will give you all the tools for a strong foundation in Greek, with a Level 1 and Level 2 class for beginners.

Latin AP Prep Course: Caesar & Vergil

Get a jumpstart on your critically important AP year through this primer with Dr. Eric Casey. Review all the most complex grammar and study the most vital passages of Caesar and Vergil to ensure that you are ready for the Latin AP exam.
