Online Programs
Calder Classics offers a range of unique and highly effective online courses developed and honed over the past five years. These half-day courses can be fit conveniently into a student's busy spring and summer schedule, and provide excellent preparation for a future Calder Classics travel program. In all of our courses, the Classics come alive through the interplay of literature, art, and ancient and modern history.

Introduction to Ancient Greek
Introduction to Ancient Greek is offered in June and July in two week sessions, meeting weekdays for 2.5 hour classes beginning at either 10:30am EDT or 8pm EDT (please be certain to make the correct start time selection on the application form).
Students may choose from the following sessions:
June 23 - July 4 Intro to Ancient Greek, Level 1 (Beginners) S/M/T/W/T 8:00pm-10:30pm EDT

Ancient Greek & Roman Philosophy (*New in 2024)
From Socrates and the Sophists to Stoicism and Neoplatonism, this course will take you through all the important Greek and Roman philosophical doctrines of ancient antiquity. (Note: This is not a translation course. No prior language skills necessary).

Early Chinese Philosophy & Practice (*New in 2024)
Learn the foundations of ancient Chinese thought. This class will include a special focus on recently unearthed manuscripts and how archaeologists and linguists discover and translate these rare documents. (Note: This is not a translation course. No prior language skills necessary).

Ancient European Architecture (*New in 2024)
The religious beliefs, aesthetic influences, and engineering innovations of ancient Greece and Rome reverberate through the centuries, represented in many structures still standing today. Learn the fundamental concepts of architecture through the history of ancient European amphitheaters, temples, arches, and aqueducts. (Note: This is not a translation course. No prior language skills necessary).

Fall of the Roman Republic (*New in 2024)
This course examines the Fall of the Republic through 6 major players in the 1st century BCE: Crassus, Pompey, Cicero, Caesar, Antony, and Octavian. Explore the history, economics, and politics of this explosive period through visual, historical, literary and discussion-based components. (Note: This is not a translation course. No prior language skills necessary).

Join Athina, our longtime Modern Greek tutor, for a focused summer primer. This course will give you all the tools for a strong foundation in Greek, with a Level 1 and Level 2 class for beginners.
